Heart Failure
Heart
failure is the result of an ongoing and progressive disorder
where damage to the heart causes weakening of the cardiovascular
system. Heart Failure must looked upon as not only the state
of the heart, but the condition of the circulation, lungs, neuroendocrine
system and other organs as well.
It is estimated
that nearly 5 million American have heart failure, and these numbers
are further compounded with the realization that heart failure
doubles with each decade of life.
In in effort to compensate the decreasing performance of the
heart as a pump, the body will attempt to use hormones and neural
signals to increase blood volume (water retention in the kidney).
A decrease in the blood flow to the kidneys will also lead to
fluid retention
The classifications:
- Right Heart Failure
- Left Heart Failure
